Without question the Klamath Basin is among the TOP TEN BIRDING SPOTS in the West. The Klamath Basin hosts over 330 bird species throughout the year. Eighty percent of the migratory birds in the Pacific Flyway Stop in the basin on their migratory flights. Oh yeah, we’ve got birds and we’re happy to help you find them. So grab your binoculars (or borrow ours) and lets go!
Two peak times of year for birding are Spring and Fall. Millions of birds pass through the Klamath Basin and stop at any one or more of our Wildlife Refuges. But, birding is available year round.
Miller Island, Lower Klamath, Tule Lake, Upper Klamath, and Bear Valley Wildlife Refuges are all great places to view birds. One could easily take a week just to visit all of these refuges. Roe Outfitters provides either driving tours or boating tours in and around these refuges. Thanks to private land access we are even able to get up close and personal with some species that are typically hard to find on the public lands.

With a diverse habitat including marshes, lakes, desert, grasslands and mountains, the Klamath Basin offers a variety of birding opportunities. The different habitats support a diverse population of nesting ducks, shorebirds and migratory songbirds. These include wood ducks, mallards, cinnamon teal, Canadian geese, mergansers, American coots, common snipes, mourning doves, killdeer, great egrets meadow larks and yellow warblers. The area also supports nesting populations of bald eagles, ospreys, and northern harriers. Binoculars in hand and a quiet step mean success on our birding tours.
Roe Outfitters LLC offers land and water based birding tours. Most tours are a half-day but longer and multi-day tours can be arranged. No experience is necessary and all equipment can be provided.
